About SkinResQU

The threat against human health from chemicals and radiation in the environment is increasing and changing. New chemicals are produced with new applications, at the same time as the old exposures remain. The skin is our largest organ and our front line in the defence against external contacts. Little research has been devoted to interdisciplinary investigations of this battle area. The research performed has not involved true interdisciplinary approaches, until the establishment of the Centre for Skin Research Gothenburg (SkinResQU).

Objective

The objective of the Centre is to create a fundamental understanding of the molecular processes that are involved when skin is exposed to medical products, chemicals, nanoparticles and radiation. This intends to improve the existing methods for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of allergic contact dermatitis and skin cancer. The obtained knowledge will improve the effects of topical drugs and transdermal drug delivery (TDD) systems.

Competence

The competence within the Centre is unique by its extensive collaboration within the fields of dermatochemistry, medicinal chemistry, nanotechnology, biophysics, physical chemistry, organic chemistry, surface chemistry, pharmaceutics, and dermatology at University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology. No other constellation of academic groups shows the same broad approach to tackle fundamental questions within skin research.
