Transdermal drug delivery

The effects of different penetration enhancers for topical pharmaceutical drug delivery are investigated. For example lipid cubic systems have been investigated both in vitro and in vivo. These systems have shown to be interesting drug delivery vehicles for photodynamic therapy. The microscopic penetration route has been investigated using two-photon microscopy (TPM) and the major penetration pathway seems to be through micro-fissures.
